Introduction to crystals
Everyone is attracted to gemstones, they have been used for ornamentation and as a symbol of power for thousands of years, and in ancient cultures, their healing properties were as important as their ability to adorn. Historically crystals have been worn for many reasons, usually by royalty (tiaras, which also include the white colour for the crown chakra), and high priests, for example the high priest of Judaism wore a breastplate wet with precious stones. Wearing gemstones traditionally symbolised power. Crystals are useful for healing, energising and gaining access to higher dimensions of consciousness. The healing energies transmitted by crystals work at the subtle energy level of our subtle energy bodies, or auras.
Nowadays crystals are used in everyday life for communication, information storage, solar power, time keeping and in laser technology, for instance, quartz is used in time pieces because quartz is stimulated by electricity (a form of energy), causing mechanical movement, and their oscillations are regular and exact, and this property of quartz crystals are called the ‘Piezoelectric effect’.
Stones are living beings, they are still growing, albeit very slowly, and this explains why a polished stone may develop cracks overtime, as the energy passing through it re-activates the growth process, and raw stones, such as amethyst clusters are often seen with small crystals, like salt, layered on them if left on the shelf for a few years.
A crystal is a solid body with a geometrically regular shape, they were created as the earth formed and have continued to metamorphose, so crystals are the earths DNA, a chemical imprint of evolution, storing records of the earth’s development over millions of years. Some crystals were subjected to immense pressure, some were laid down in layers, others were formed by being dripped into being. How crystals are formed affect their properties and the way they function, but no matter how they were formed, their crystalline structure can absorb, conserve, focus, and emit energy, especially on the electromagnetic wavelength. Because of chemical impurities, radiation, earth and solar emissions, and their exact means of their formation, each type of crystal has its own specific vibration, so each crystal resonates to a specific vibration. It is the crystals’ structure, not the mineral or minerals out of which it is formed that is important in a classifying crystal, in some cases, the mineral content differs slightly, creating various colours in which a particular crystal can be found.
Three uses of crystals include for emotional, mental, and spiritual benefits, realigning subtle energies and dissolving dis-ease, getting to the root cause. Crystals work through vibration, rebalancing the bio magnetic energy field called the aura that surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body and activating linkage points to the chakras that regulate the body’s vibrational stasis. Balancing the chakras improves many states of dis-ease, whether it be emotional, mental, or a spiritual disconnectedness. Crystals gently deal with the cause of dis-ease instead of only making the symptoms better.
