Christmas party survival guide

This December, follow these 10 easy tips to ensure you don’t over do it this festive season

1. Fill up on a healthy meal before you go to reduce the urge to gorge on junk foods.

2. Add extra ice cubes to your drinks, and alternate drinks with glasses of water.

3. Bring your own healthy plate of food to share, such as a mezze platter.

4. Set yourself a time to leave the party by. This ensures you make the most of the time there and will take the focus off the food and alcohol. And, this will also help ensure you get to bed for adequate rest.

5. Make sure you slip, slop, and slap to avoid sun burn and heat stroke

6. Stick to a budget when buying gifts. Remember, it is the thought that counts.

7. It is OK to say no to an invitation. If saying yes will overexert you then listen to your body and decline the party invitation. Perhaps a Christmas card will suffice instead?

8. Pair up with others for moral support. By car pooling and attending Christmas parties with other people you already have a conversation partner and mingling will become easier.

9. Look for games that are simple and can be played by several other people. Regardless of the skill level required, a few people playing a common game is sure to get a few laughs and to take the focus of the individuals in the group

10. Make time for exercise, this will help balance the mind, body and spirit.
